One day in 1959 we went down to Crescent Beach aka Casino Beach and saw the Mute Swans on the beach. Image made by Minneford, 1959.

I tried to pet one and it bit me hard and it really hurt bad.

I was only four years old.

Note Mr Dillon's Pier and float and all the old wooden boats

Note the old pier that was close to the cemetery which was dilapilated from storms and disrepair. That pier later was shaved down by thick ice, when it melted. The ice just flattened it. Wooden piles are not very durable against nature.

Note the lack of trees on Hart Island in the distance.

News 12 The Bronx came to City Island Park and broadcasted from Catherine Scott Promenade.

Her namesake, News 12 Reporter Katherine Scott was there! Laughing

This is my favorite piccy. It looks like something you'd find in National Geographic Magazine.

Note the middle cygnet (named Beta) with squinty eyes and his right foot relaxed on his body.

Yesterday someone set up a tent for some shade while casting off of Rat Island.

I count a number of people sharing this tiny lump of Mahattan Schist bedrock.

At night they light a campfire.

This tiny island was used as a Typhoid Quarantine Hospital for forty patients.

The place was closed due to storms flooding. cobblestone foundations can still be seen.

A large groove was carved into the rock on the south side for small dorys.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Plaza_%28New_Rochelle%29

I visited New Roc City and took these pics.

There is a new tower in New Rochelle called Trump Plaza and it costs $750 Million! Shocked

It is now part of our view to the North of this island.

A Giant Crane floats by this island thru the shipping channel.. It can lift 1000 tons! It is owned by Weeks.

Come with me!

Let me show you what I see, what I already know!

Things about my City Island........

Things you never knew!

What you will see, will astonish you, startle you with it's beauty.

Look at all the images of our fine feathered friends, the Sun's rays shine down on the City Island Bridge, the seagulls play in the air over our homes......

My Mother saw this whole gallery and she approves! Very Happy

Not a cloud in the blue blue sky!

Audrey, Cyrus and the three Cygneteers were in the marshweeds at Pelham Cemetery, So I took a dinghy and visited them and fed them. Smile As I have already promised, I took you on a boat, off of the coast of this island! The swans know, just like you, that I am all over and around this tiny island.
The Swans take about two days to circle the island. They cannot fly for three weeks each July, every year.

Yes, I see the cygnets wings are like Audie's. Crying or Very sad

Bonavita Key Food on Westchester Avenue.

My Swans over at Rodman's Neck. I had to use zoom and telephoto.

A large Cormorant looks around the Eastchester Bay.

These images were taken at Sea Shore Restaurant parking lot.

The bobbysoxer in the circle skirt is my sister....

I returned to the exact spot on Crescent Beach which is property now owned by a Chris Mcguire. He wants to build there, but does not have the street frontage. Notice the landfill and how little is left of the beach.
The pier was still being used in 1958-1960, but badly damaged in 1960 by Hurricane Donna and finally knocked down in Winter 1970 due to thick ice floes drifting into it and crushing it. There was a small shack at the foot of the pier, where a squatter named Bill lived. Notice the lack of trees on northern Hart Island.

Places to be imaged are......

Big Wilson's Mansion, Long Mansion, Ambrosini Field & Park, Seafood City Manhattan Skyline Panorama, Duryea House, ect, ect......

I almost half expected Elves and Pixies and winged Faeries and Leprechauns and gnomes to show up in this west Rochelle Street storybook woodland fantasy landscape.

According to my GPS Grids, This location is the eastern-most legal residence home in The Bronx! A person cannot live in Bronx County any more farther East than here, as a free man! There are prisoners on Hart Island, but they are not permanent residents and are not willingly living there. After here a person must live on Long Island and in Nassau County to be further east.

These piccys were taken on South of City Island on Rochelle Street.

Ambrosini Field was locked. It is not usual like this. Sad

I visited Sutherland Street Beach which is a public beach. This is the best close up view of High Island you can get from standing on public property on City Island.

For more on High Island.

http://hawkins.pair.com/wcbs_wfan.html

You can see that due north is Trump Plaza New Rochelle.
It cost $750 Million dollars...

Execution Lighthouse can be seen between High Island and Hart Island.

Where are you, Bill & Betty? They say they are no relation to Schofield Street. You must love all dogs..... Beware of dogs!

The sign at the end of this and many other streets, is a local joke. These are community beaches, that are as wide as the dead end street, about fifty feet wide.

Sutherland Street "Castle" complete with Battlements!

This house is the northen most house on this island.
Terrace Street is the northernmost street on the island. It winds up in a dead end.

This doctors house on King Avenue and Bowne Street was where "Love Is All There Is" was filmed. Another landmark house which gives City Island the nickname of Cinema Island. The movie was then called "Oh No!, Not Her!" and later changed.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116928/

Next door is the infamous Fioretti home, where a NYPD cop named Robert Fioretti murdered his young wife Rita and looted her bank account.

By now, you are going "Ooooh! Oooooh!!" Exclamation Laughing

Monk Parakeet (Parrot) Sketch.

A visit to the City Island Wharf.... This restaurant was the original Shrimp Box and then it became a Chinese restaurant (quite a good one!) and then it became Tito Puente's Restaurant and now it is renamed The Shrimp Box.

A huge Parrot Stick Nest condo made by local Monk Parakeets on a utility pole above Sammy's Fish Box's parking lot.......... Con Ed has hung a few relectors twisting in the wind, to scare off any new parrot constructions.

The story is supposed to be that a cage carrying South American Monk Parakeets (Parrots) at JFK Airport broke open and released a flock into the Tri-State Area. They are in every borough of NYC and along the Palisades in New Jersey...

These parrots have been here several years now and love the heat from the electrical transformers in Winter. They have decoded their Parrot language and they talk to each other about food and us and dogs and cats and raccoons...

They are unbelieveably intelligent for animals or birds. They have the mind like a Human child.

Con Ed in NY allows the Parrots to live and in Connecticut they are killing the birds...

A visit down west Horton Street makes a nice panorama..............

Someone, stop me before I make another panorama again! Laughing

Stay tuned! I now have a new fiberglass speedboat and I promise to take you all around City Island.....

This is so exciting!

Quicktime movies coming soon!
