This helicopter just flew circles over my house and landed on this island at IUC.
It appears to be an US Army chopper.
That was a US Army Blackhawk Helicopter!

The Island Current Post Office Box 6, City Island Station, Bronx New York 10464..... $10 per year
Here is a piccy from the local paper that has the article that says Nicole Kidman visited City Island aka Cinema Island to film a movie.
You can read the entire article here.
Down on the cemetery beach at low tide, a Great White Egret named Smiler has to hunt for his breakfast.....
He wades in the shallow waters looking for baby fish, eels and crabs.
A nearbly Gull named Joey looks for mussels to drop over the rocks to smash the shells open to eat the insides.
Even birds have to go to work to make a living.
Smiler often feeds at low tide and has to defend his territory, so he fights with othe Egrets. Egrets tend to croak like frogs.
From the distance he looks like an ordinary gull, but he is really a Black Crowned Night Heron who makes a Kwok for a call.

Audrey & Cyrus came to visit this afternoon and brought their three cygnets.....!
These were taken while the swan family were dabbling in the harbor below where Actor Vincent Donofrio stood when he filmed Law & Order Criminal Intent: Sound Bodies near Kirby Street Marina.
The cygnets are named Alpha, Beta and Kappa, Alpha being the biggest.
http://www.nbc.com/Law_&_Order:_Criminal_Intent/episode_guide/53.shtml
Hey! I finally got to show you that I do indeed have all these birds here!
This is what it is really like over here.
Verey serene and peaceful... |

They were waiting at the cemetary beach which only appears at low tide.
From what I can see, the swans are now circling this island every day, mooching for bread from many people.
They like to eat the seamoss that grows off the float. |

I visited Harlem Yacht Club and took a panorama of the shore starting with the stilted Strauss House...
This is a panorama of Eastchester Bay and the west shore of City Island.
I did up a panorama hehehe of the corner of City Island Avenue and Ditmars Street including the City Island Sunoco gasoline station with its brand new plaza and tanks and pumps and pavements.
The station no longer has a mechanic on duty anymore.
This also shows Artie's formerly Artie's Manor. Artie died and his son moved away to Florida. The late Big Wilson was always giving this restaurant a plug on WNBC AM back in the 1960's.

This is the entrance to the Hart Island Ferry on east Fordham Street.
It is off limits to the public.
Today they used the old fashioned orange & blue ferry instead of the black one that has to back in.
This ferry has a lane for cars and trucks so they can roll on and off.
It is larger than the black ferry in capacity but much smaller than the Staten Island Ferry which looks quite similar.
In the 60's they had a Hart Island Ferry which was larger than this orange one.
They usually bring in the larger ferry for the larger trucks carrying more corpses for burial.
Here is the Hart Island Ferry. Notice it has a blue & orange bus for prisoners and a white van for bodies for Potters field.
It has to back in to offload. It is off limits to the public as Hart Island is a prison island. |

We now have a Dunkin Donuts and a Subway restaurant. I'm hoping the small store in between will sell magazines and cool stuff.
The City Island Triangle near the bridge is a turnaround.
The City Island Bridge was said to be designed by Stanford White and to be demolished next year for a cable stayed bridge. The Stanford White fact is under dispute, until we find out if this is true.
I always want to remember how the bridge was like, when the Sun's rays shone down on it that day.

Corner of City Island Avenue and Fordham Street.....
City Island Diner does indeed have the very best coffee in town!
This belongs to my childhood friend named Trader John Persteins. It is Trader John's Boat, Bait and Bar.... formerly Rosenbergers This boathouse with a bar in it, is technically the Westernmost house on City Island. The new houses across the street, will become the westernmost inhabited house.
Jorgensen's Landing and JP's Restaurant...
Sutherland Street
St Mary's rectory....
East end of Kilroe Street......
City Island is for Mute Swan Lovers!

This is Harrington Talents, it is a Movie Film production company with studios that does business here on City Island at 213 Fordham Street.
It is another good reason why this place called City Island is also nicknamed "Cinema Island"......

I snuck into the Diner and took this piccy! LOL!
The sign is right! The City Island Diner, does have the very best coffee in NYC!

To the left is Hewlett Point on Na$$au County Long Island in the background.
Notice the mansions on Long Island's north coast!
They are all Multimillionares.....
There is a steel sheeted wall for Barron's boatyard and at low tide, you can hear a ducks quack, echo lots!

I visited Morris Yacht Club, cause they left the gate open and like any good paparazzi like me, I will just walk in and take some snappys....
I went to Tonys pier restaurant
The long strange wait for Audie....
As I have said before, Audie was never rescued.
I cannot get to him and Animal Care & Control will not either.
In a strange development, Audie's wing feathers have grown back!
Apparently, someone set her afire and her feathers fell off and now they grew back.
Her wings still look malformed or broken but the wings are still alive!
As you can now see, Audie grew up into a Pen or female Mute Swan and she is no longer a cygnet.
Swans do not have eggs until they are four years old.
Audie is alone as far as I know, but that may change.
I wonder where her siblings went? |
