Q What is there to do on little City Island?
A There are many nice places to eat, from fun food to high priced restaurants. At Johnny's Reef Restaurant and Tony's Pier Restaurant, they have a great view of Steppingstones Lighthouse and the Long Island Shipping Channel of Long Island Sound. Long Island's Nassau County's Northern Shore has mansions owned by Multi Millionares like Vanderbuilt and Roosevelt. There are many nice shops, including antiques stores selling all kinds of nostalgia. Boatyards and boatclubs dot the shore of the island.
Q Who is "Johnny" of Johnny's Reef Restaurant?
A I heard that Mr. Johnny Musacchia sold off his business and retired and moved away to the Florida Keys and died. I don't know if it is true he died. I think he lived in Marathon Key Florida.
Q Did you know him?
A Yes, it was a pleasure working for him.
Q What did you do?
A I expanded his parking lot and outdoor concrete deck.
Q What was he like?
A He was a wealthy businessman. His style was very impressive.
Q What other nice sights can I see?
A Go to Seafood City and watch the NYC skyline while eating a burger or Shrimp dinner. The skyline lights up nice after dark on clear nights.
Q I want to go ice skating.
A I love to skate on the ponds that form on the asphalt on Orchard Beach Parking Lot. It is parkland and free admission and free parking and legal. Very safe also. The pond is very shallow. Just a few inches.

Q What else can you do?
A You can rent or buy a boat and go fishing or simply sightsee. You can go on a charter boat for day or night fishing out on the Sound. You may also go birdwatching. Many people go birdwatching in the park.
Q Can I go to the beach?
A No, not on this island, the beaches are controlled by beach clubs and closed to the public. They are supposed to be public. Orchard Beach is open to the public. The beaches near the bridge at Rodman's Neck are not good for swimming. There is too much broken glass, a nasty current and no lifeguard. Lousy security.
Q What else is there to do?
A City Island is famous for seafood and boats. It has a small village on it with churches and various stores. We are also famous for making Sails for Sailboats. Sorry, but we no longer have a movie theater. The last one went broke in 1977. Seafood City has a videogame arcade for young people. We have a theater group that puts on small plays in a church. Some places have live music. We also have a community center at 190 Fordham Street. I heard they have dances there. It is also fun to visit the museum and find out about history. You can take sailing lessons for sailboats. For the brave people who like to dive, diving lessons are offered. I hope you have enough money.
The new playground next to PS 175 is now open to children only.
Q Who has the best coffee?
A The diner has good joe and so does the only gas station.
For more info, check the links section.
Q Are there any nightclubs?
A There are a few bars on the island that cater to locals. |
